Good question ! What you are primarily checking is HYOSUNG. They make a good scooter. I bought one for my daughter. The one I bought is actually distributed by UM, which was United Motors but now is just UM. Hyosung sells the exact scooter with different graphics and model designation. They make a 250cc cruiser and sport bike, and a 650cc cruiser and sportbike. All the motorcycles are V twins. The Koreans also make Kymco..I THINK. I’m pretty sure I read that in one of my industry periodicals. Back in 1986 when Hyundai first sold in America everyone was sure that the Koreans would fail. With improvements each year Hyundai is now a very good car and is selling big numbers. Kia is doing well now that Hyundai bought them. And Suzuki makes some cars in Korea. I expect that the Koreans will do well in time in America. The quality that I see in their products is really good. They have a better warranty than most Japanese makers. I think they should concentrate on the entry level as did Yamaha and Honda when they were establishing themselves. Until the younger generation of bikers becomes repeat customers of Hyosung they will have trouble gaining acceptance. If you bought one you.d be fine until you want to trade in or sell. The Big four dealers are snubbing Hyosung and criticizing them just as the british bike dealers did to them; just as the Harley dealers still do. Until a foothold is gained by Korean bikes I’d avoid the bigger models but I’d surely consider a 250 or smaller. The quality is much better than anything Chinese. Actually, the 650 cruiser is drop dead gorgeous, similar to the V rod. Oddly, UM, in Miami sells nearly the entire Hyosung line up as UM items, and the warranty is better than that of Hyosung. There is trouble brewing with some Hyosung dealers who oppose the UM competition with the same products.
