Is this for school?
1. Don’t know too many technical terms… R&B = Rhythm and Blues. It came from Jump Blues and early Jazz. Less emphasis on improvisation and more focus on the actual song. It is pretty much blues with a backing band. Mostly based on the 12-bar blues…
2. R&B reflected society of the 1940s and 1950s… It eventually turned into Funk and Soul in the 1960s. It influenced society greatly as it turned into Rock and Roll when it was fused with Country in the 1950s…
3. It influenced Rock and Roll.
4. Rural blues to Jump blues to R&B… Major performers: Ray Charles, James Brown, The Coasters, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, T Bone Walker, Drifters, Little Richard, Big Joe Turner…
5. R&B that exists today isn’t really R&B. It’s just a catch term for Hip Hop/Soul influenced music that has sung vocals instead of raps. It really doesn’t have a significant cultural influence anymore and it will be dead in 50 years just as it is now (regarding its true form/cultural significance).
